The shop
Zapata Custom Cabinets was founded by Maria Ramos and Eleazar Zapata. It began as a small-scale workshop and has grown into a full-time operation in Dallas.
The work is 100% custom cabinetry, which means the design, the construction, and the installation all come from the same shop on Merrell Road. Nothing arrives in a flat pack.
A consultation starts with Maria. She listens to how the room needs to work, and the drawing follows from there.

The work
Full kitchens, from the island out to the tall cabinets that run all the way to the ceiling. Painted or stained, with the storage worked out around how the room actually gets used: pull-outs, divided drawers, a carousel where the corner would otherwise go dead, a garage for the appliances that live on the counter.
If the boxes are already sound, refacing is an option too. New doors and drawers, the same footprint.
Vanities sized to the wall you have, with drawer banks deep enough for what a bathroom actually accumulates, and tall side cabinets in the space where a mirror on its own would leave the wall empty.
Bookcase walls, home offices, bars, and closets. The same shop and the same finishes carry on past the kitchen door, so the woodwork in one room does not read as a stranger to the next.
Inside
Where the pull-outs go, how the drawers get divided, whether the corner becomes a carousel or stays dead space, whether there is light inside the glass and under the uppers. All of that gets settled before anything is cut, and it is the part you use every day afterward.
Materials
Oak, maple, and cherry for the parts you see and touch. Behind them, plywood for the boxes because it resists warping, MDF where a painted door needs to stay flat, and laminate or veneer when the finish calls for it.
Matte hides fingerprints. Gloss puts light back into a room that does not get much. You look at samples in your own kitchen, under your own lights, before any of it is settled.
Process
An hour at the shop on Merrell Road, by appointment. Bring your measurements if you have them, along with how you want the room to work.
The layout gets drawn, with a 3D rendering of the room, so you can look at it and change your mind while changing it is still easy.
Picked against real samples rather than a screen, and looked at in the light the room actually gets.
Everything is made in the Dallas shop, to measurements taken off your walls rather than off a standard size chart.
Fitted and set in place, then the hardware and the last details go on.
